    • A tentative mechanism could involve the oxidation of the nucleophilic reagent in the phenylselenate anion case. Owing to the very easy formation of diphenyldiselenide [13], the known visible-light breaking of the selenium-selenium bond and the possible abstraction of the larger halogen by the phenyselenyl radical so formed [14], the substitution reaction of the chlorine atom could be initiated. However, no proof for this process are presently available.
