    • As already observed, XRD patterns never show the contribution of cobalt oxide particles; commonly this is attributed to the small size of the crystallites, to the insufficient cobalt load, to the presence of strain factors and disorder, or to the low cobalt oxide content (see, as an example, Klug, H. P.; Alexander, L. E. X-ray Diffraction Procedures-For Polycrystalline and Amorphous Materials, 2nd ed.; Wiley: New York, 1974, Chapter 9). In this case, however, HRTEM data allow us to exclude the possibility of a disordered system.
