This is an important result for two reasons: Firstly, this is another group that has replicated the Edmonton success. However, this study also reports increased patient dissatisfaction with solitary islet transplantation despite graft function relative to previous results. As such, this study illustrates the importance of determining the 'cost/benefit' of islet transplantation in pre-uremic diabetic patients.
