    • Our actual implementation is to let the surface point experience a force that is obtained from Eq. (7) by using a cutoff value of 0.1-0.4 nm for λ. Points further out are allowed to feel the force from Eq. (7) as well as the local and nonlocal terms evaluated as usual. Since these vanish for a straight line, this procedure goes to the correct limit. The surface force is allowed to act only on the first four or six points leaving or entering the surface, for which the straight-line approximation is presumably not too inaccurate.
