1. ICV is a Green EcoSocialist party; it is the successor organization of the Communist Catalan Party (PSUC). IU and ICV broke relations in 1997 but they re-established a less strong link for the 2004 general election in the form of an electoral coalition. The Catalan branch of IU, Esquerra Unida i Alternativa (United and Alternative Left) is far weaker than ICV.
