    • The equation of whether the ideal part of the free energy can be neglected in limit of T → O is not without subtleites. For exmaple, for the On-sager model fo thin hard rods, the orientational entropy has significant effects on the phase behavior enen at high densities when the system is highly orderd (see Refs, 13 and 14). This arises because in the Onsager case the excass part of the free energy also continues to decrease as rods order more strongly. In the Maier-Saupe theory, on the other hand, the excass free energy has a nonzero limit for S → 1 and so neglect of ideal part should be unproblematic.
