SoxRS mediated regulation of chemotrophic sulfur oxidation in Paracoccus pantotrophus
-
in press.
-
Rother D, Orawski G, Bardischewsky F, Friedrich CG: SoxRS mediated regulation of chemotrophic sulfur oxidation in Paracoccus pantotrophus. Microbiol 2005, in press. This is the first report on regulation of gene expression of chemolithotrophic sulfur oxidation at the molecular level. Sequence features of the primary structure of the repressor SoxR and its characteristics of binding to promoter regions point to a thiosulfate-dependent and a novel redox-driven regulation.

Insights into the stress response and sulfur metabolism revealed by proteome analysis of a Chlorobium tepidum mutant lacking the Rubisco-like protein

T.E. Hanson, and F.R. Tabita Insights into the stress response and sulfur metabolism revealed by proteome analysis of a Chlorobium tepidum mutant lacking the Rubisco-like protein Photosyn Res 78 2003 231 248 The insertional mutation in the gene encoding the Rubisco-like protein in Chlorobium tepidum causes a pleiotropic response and disables the mutant to oxidize thiosulfate but not sulfide. The physiological consequence is correlated with absence of selected Sox proteins and indicates that the incomplete sox gene cluster is functional without the soxCD gene.

The dsr gene cluster serves as paradigm for other bacteria that store and mobilize sulfur globules and enables us to study the interaction of sulfite reductase with other proteins to elucidate the electron transport from and to sulfite reductase.
