15. In attempts to enhance β-seission by rigorously excluding air through freeze - thaw under vacuum and working under a blanket of nitrogen, the conversion level to benzaldehyde and to ketone averaged 45% and 26% yields, respectively.
16. The β-scission product acetaldehyde (ethanal) would not have been detected by the GC conditions employed.
