    • note
    • This value is calculated from the plot of X-ray flux vs. photon energy published by SSRL to describe the capabilities of its beamlines. The 0.1% bandpass that is integrated into the plot to describe the attenuation by the monochromator of the white radiation from the synchrotron adequately accommodates the resolution. However it neglects the intrinsic efficiency of the monochromator, which is typically about 1%. [S. Brennan, Workshop on Powder X-ray Diffraction, SSRL User's Meeting 2004.] Thus a more realistic value of the number of photons incident on a sample during a spectrum is lower than this calculation by about two orders of magnitude.
