The calculated physical properties do not depend on whether the choice is odd N or even N, of course, but the ground state quantum numbers do. When we consider even (N+1) sites of the NRG conduction electron chain, (0,1,...,N), the ground state of the chain is unique. Thus the total degeneracy is 2, which may be labeled by the charge and spin quantum numbers, Q and S: (Q,S)=(1,0), (-1,0). On the other hand, for odd (N+1) sites of the conduction electron chain, there exists one zero single-particle energy state which produces four degenerate ground states on the chain. This in turn results in the total degeneracy of 8: (Q,5)=(2,0),(1,1/2), (0,0);(0,0),(-1,1/2), (-2,0). Recall that S=1/2 has the degeneracy of 2. We took an even N=40 and the NRG discretization parameter Λ=2.0 in the present study.
