    • While one might question the PDOIS leaders' choice of tactics, their integrity is beyond doubt. Having spent nearly a decade opposing the Jawara regime, they declined the cabinet posts that Jammeh offered them after his coup, citing their principled objections to military intervention in politics. Subsequently, they were arrested and detained for deliberately flouting a military decree by continuing to publish their party newspaper Foroyaa (meaning "freedom" in the Wolof language).
