The network for the Mississippi was extracted from a topographic dataset constructed from 3-arcsec USGS Digital Elevation Maps, decimated by averaging to approximately 1000-m horizontal resolution (www.usgs.gov). At this grid scale, the Mississippi was found to be an order (Formula presented) basin.
