The structure of ClpB: A molecular chaperone that rescues proteins from an aggregated state
-
This paper shows the first atomic structure of the ClpB monomer, revealing that the linker sequence between its two AAA modules is an antiparallel coiled coil. Oligomers are shown to form a stacked pair of hexameric rings, with the coiled coils extending outwards. The flexibility of the coiled coils is demonstrated to be essential for its disaggregating function.
