    • There is the danger of a straw man here, as no one, as far as I know, defends the exclusively forward-looking approach to transitional justice as a general and principled matter. It is for this reason that I speak in terms of the conceivable positions. Still, as we will see, on specific issues and in specific contexts, some do argue for an approach to transitional justice that forgoes the backward-looking measures I defend.
