125-Au nanoparticles have a tendency to aggregate when stored at 4 °C. Indeed, after a year, the majority of the sample deposits as dimer and trimer aggregates as observed by TEM (see Figure 1). Gentle heating of these nanoparticles in a toluene solution for 10 min breaks the aggregates apart. However, no change in the UV-vis spectra was noted after heating for this sample.

TEM provides the average diameter of the circumsphere of the nanoparticle core. TGA provides the weight fraction of organic/Au for the nanoparticles. The combination of data allows for the simple calculation of the nanoparticle average composition.
