The study found that blood volume determination was a poor predictor of instability, while noninvasive cardiac output determination (in this case by echocardiography) was a sensitive predictor of hemodynamic instability.

J Human Hypertens 1995, 9:535-540. This paper describes subacute changes in hemodynamic function over a four-week period. The paper demonstrated the ability to use thoracic bioimpedance cardiac output determinations in an outpatient setting over a period of time.

This is the seminal engineering paper describing the new signal processing technique for thoracic bioimpedance cardiac output determination. Previous versions of bioimpedance have been severely limited due to interference and physiologic variations. The system described resolves many of these problems.

This paper is the laboratory demonstration of the techniques described in reference 19. A high correlation between thermodilution and bioimpedance is demonstrated in a rabbit model.
