The term "hyponucleus" was suggested by Alfred S. Goldhaber, as early as 1982, in the Proceedings of the Second LAMPF II Workshop, edited by H. A. Thiessen, T. S. Bhatia, R. D. Carlini, and N. Hintz (Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, 1982), Vol. I, LA-9572-C, p. 171, for a "positive strangeness nucleus, if any exist," adding that "such objects are not expected from the known interactions of kaons and nucleons, which are repulsive at low energies, and therefore if found would be a sign of new degrees of freedom."
