CDF II uses a cylindrical coordinate system in which φ is the azimuthal angle, r is the radius from the nominal beam line, y points up, and z points in the proton beam direction with the origin at the center of the detector. The transverse plane is the plane perpendicular to the z axis. A superconducting magnet provides a nearly uniform 1.4 T axial field in which charged particles are reconstructed.
