It gives the opportunity to compare survival rates of patients with early HCC treated by resection, percutaneous treatments and arterial embolization as the first-line option.

This is the largest randomized controlled trial in the West assessing embolization for non-surgical HCC. The study was stopped because survival benefits favouring the treatment arm (chemoembolization with doxorubicin) were identified in comparison to conservative management.
