13. b figures are determined on the basis of the present knowledges on the electron mean free path [see: M.P. Seah and W.A. Dench, Surf. Interf. Anal. 1 (1979) 2] and on the tickness of the surface emission layer which, for these compounds, is much larger than for pure metals (see e.g. Ref. [5]). On this basis a decomposition of the IPE spectra in terms surface and bulk profiles has been performed and negligible differences are present between the UV (X-ray) and the surface (bulk) line shapes.
