MEFs issued from wild-type and p44 MAPK-deficient mice were analyzed for reinitiation of DNA synthesis following serum starvation for 24 hours, and for doubling time at low (2-3) and high passages (6-8). Reinitiation of DNA synthesis by 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) (3.5-to 4.5-fold stimulation) and doubling time (18 to 24 hours) were indistinguishable between the two types of fibroblasts (C. Pagès and J. Pouysségur, unpublished data).
