    • THe interlay er tunneling of Wheatley, Hsu, and Anderson is in terms of holon condensation (Ref. 9) and played no role in the further development of this idea. What was falsified in Refs. 10 and 11 is not the interlayer tunneling, but the unjustified conjecture by P. W. Anderson [Science 279, 1196 (1998)] that the entire condensation energy comes from interlayer tunneling, including single-layer materials.

    • i) are two dimensional, which implies that the presented model is a spherical version of an M-vector model with a fixed M=2. The spherical model earned wider attention after calculations based on high-temperature series expansion proved it was reasonable approximation of the Heisenberg three-dimensional system. See P. S. English, D. L. Hunter, and C. Domb, J. Phys. A 12, 2111 (1979); H. E. Stanley, J. Appl. Phys. 40, 1272 (1969). As shown by Stanley, the critical properties of the fairly realistic but hopelessly insoluble Heisenberg model (vector spins) are bounded on one side by those of the Ising model (one-dimensional spins) and on the other by those of the spherical model (infinite-dimensional spins). Therefore, the spherical model that has in the past been interpreted as a soluble approximation the Ising model is in fact a much better approximation of the more "realistic" Heisenberg system; see H. E. Stanley, Phys. Rev. 176, 718 (1968).
