There the authors studied the quantum dynamics of a resistively shunted Josephson junction and found that dissipation completely suppresses winding numbers (spin flips in our paper). The model we consider in Eq. (8) differs from that of Zwerger et al., for the dissipation naturally couples to the magnetization, M=M exp(iφ), and not to the angular velocity φ. For the action in Eq. (8) we find nonzero winding numbers are not suppressed.
