Higher rates of post-partum complications in HIV infected than in uninfected women irrespective of mode of delivery
-
European HIV in Obstetrics Group. Higher rates of post-partum complications in HIV infected than in uninfected women irrespective of mode of delivery. AIDS 2004; 18:933-938. This paper looks at postpartum complications after vaginal delivery as well as elective Caesarean delivery, and shows that HIV-infected women are at increased risk of postpartum complications regardless of mode of delivery, but that modification of clinical practice, particularly use of prophylactic antibiotics, would reduce this risk.
