Low incidence of hip fractures in an equatorial area
-
Castro da Rocha FA, Ribeiro AR: Low incidence of hip fractures in an equatorial area. Osteoporosis Int 2003, 14:496-499. A very low incidence rate of hip fractures is reported in an equatorial region. This reduced fracture rate may be due to greater sunlight exposure, and it calls for future investigation of the relation between hip fractures and vitamin D metabolism.

Changes in hip fracture epidemiology: Redistribution between ages, genders and fracture types
-
Lofman O, Berglund K, Larsson L, et al.: Changes in hip fracture epidemiology: redistribution between ages, genders and fracture types. Osteoporosis Int 2002, 13:18-25. Unlike most of the previous studies on the topic, this study identifies a trend-break in hip fracture incidence for women in a region of Sweden. The authors suggest that interventions designed to reduce hip fractures may be effective.
