    • 2 AlCl was used, MAO has thus been chosen to compare the activity with high reproducibility.

    • In most cases, the results (catalytic activity) at low Al/V molar ratios were highly reproducible, but the lower activity was observed in several experimental runs. We think that this is due to impurities such as small amount of water and/or oxygen in the reaction mixture (in the present case, the amount of d-MAO is ca. 7 mg). Alkyl aluminum also plays a role to remove impurities in the solution.

    • In addition, the yield for atactic polystyrene was lower than that performed without vanadium catalyst under the same conditions. The result clearly indicates that present vanadium complex-MAO system did not catalyze styrene polymerization.
