1. Editors’ note: ‘Queenmother’ is a customary position of authority occupied by women in Ghana - the queenmother of a community would have influence over its choice of male leader. In the present, ‘queenmothers’ are also found in the commercial sphere within local markets where they coordinate women’s trading activities, most particularly in terms of setting prices.
