18. Both compounds 1 and 6 were purified by size exclusion chromatography on a G-10 column, eluting with water, then lyophylized. The yield in the coupling of 6 with the lucifer yellow iodoacetamide, was variable and often low (∼2%), almost certainly because the tris(carboxyethyl)phosphine was competing for the iodoacetamide.
