    • The response of a dielectric medium to an impurity fixed in a QD site (static) is properly accounted for by the static dielectric constant. However, when calculating the self-polarization potential of a fast moving electron we should take into account that the electron moves too rapidly for the atom cores to adjust, so phonons cannot be involved. Hence, dynamic e., should be employed.

    • 1=1, impurity we actually mean an impurity located at (R-h/2), where R is the QD radius and h is the discretization of the grid (see Section II).

    • Basically this approach is a first order perturbation calculation of Eb using the ground state of an impurity-free QD as the zerothorder wave function.
