5. Byrd JW, Jones KS. Diagnostic accuracy of clinical assessment, magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance arthrography, and intra-articular injection in hip arthroscopy patients. Am J Sports Med 2004; 32:1668-1674. This is a retrospective review of prospective data that compared the diagnostic ability of common instruments used to diagnose intra-articular pathologies in hip arthroscopy patients. They showed that clinical assessment predicted abnormality in 98% of patients. Magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance arthrography, and intra-articular injection of anesthetic were also assessed for detecting ability of intra-articular abnormalities.
