2 (0.1 mmol), Adogen 464 (≈ 0.2 mmol), the solvent (10 ml), the substrate (1 mmol) and SPC (4 mmol). The mixture was stirred at reflux under an air atmosphere for the time reported in Table 1. After cooling to room temperature, the slurry was filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness at room temperature under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to flash chromatography eluting with EtOAc/petroleum ether to afford the ketone or the aldehyde. The organic acid was isolated from the precipitate by acid hydrolysis (aqueous 2M HCl) followed by extraction with diethyl ether.
