BJU Int 2003; 92:205-210. This s an excellent study in which the authors have prospectively compared robotc radical prostatectomy with a contemporary cohort of standard radical prostatectomy to clearly match both the groups. They conclude that robotic radical prostatectomy (VIP) is not only a feasible and reproducible procedure, but early functional outcome in terms of continence and potency were better in the VIP group.

Eur Urol 2003; 44:175-181. This paper describes the usefulness of robotic assistance in carrying out skilled surgery.

31. Van Velthoven RF, Ahlering TE, Peltier A, et al. Technique for laparoscopic running urethrovesical anastomosis: the single knot method. Urology 2003; 61:699-702. This is a very good technique of vesicourethral anastomosis which was essentially developed for laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. The authors expanded its use in eight cases of robotic radical prostatectomy. It markedly simplifies the vesicourethral anastomosis, if one chooses to do running anastomosis.

33. Menon M, Hemal AK, Tewari A, et al. Nerve-sparing robot-assisted radical cystoprostatectomy and urinary diversion. BJU Int 2003; 92:232-236. This is first case series of 14 male patients in whom robotic radical cystectomy with preservation of nerves and urinary diversion was performed. The authors describe their three-step technique, which they developed essentially for this kind of surgery. This is the first and only study on robotic radical cystectomy using the da Vinci system currently published in the world literature.

Comparison of pyeloplasty with the da Vinci robotic system and standard laparoscopic techniques suggests that the greatest potential advantage of the latter technique is due to the excellent and magnified view of the operative field coupled with wrist instrumentations, which helps in recarving the flaps and anastomosis.
