    • In these calculations, however, the ground states which show some very short Fe-Fe distances lie very close in energy (∼10 kJ) to excited states, where the same Fe-Fe distances are longer by as much as 0.8 Å. This is a clear indication of weak M-M bonding and inherent structural flexibility.
