In addition, the appearance of oligomers and polymers with 3-11 repeating units can be seen in spectral pattern of the MALDI-TOF spectra for 3. This is the case for the cyclic and the linear structures, respectively. Lower molecular weight oligomers were not detectable because of the signals from the dithranol matrix. Furthermore, the molecular weight distribution shown by MALDI-TOF differs from that of GPC because of discrimination of higher molecular weight oligomers and polymers in MALDI-TOF analyses.
