    • Since the traveling waves have a decay length of the order of the depth of the fluid d, the inner and outer waves are decoupled for the annular geometries used. Runs were made with conducting temperature boundary conditions on the inner wall instead of insulating (which suppresses wall modes), and outer wave results were unchanged.

    • We cannot explain this discrepancy. Our reduced Nusselt numbers for a given ε are about half as big as the data quoted by Liu and Ecke [4] on page 4093. Our Nusselt number versus c calculations do agree to within 4% of Behringer and Ahler's results [24] for a nonrotating cell of aspect ratio 4.72 near threshold.
