An analogue bearing a naphthalene in the place of the naphthalenedialdehyde moiety in NNA exhibited wash resistance in smooth muscle preparations (mouse vas deferens and guinea pig ileum) (unpublished data). This suggests that very strong noncovalent binding of NNA with the mutant receptors was responsible for the observed wash resistance.
