    • Air mass is actually defined as the ratio of the path length of radiation through the atmosphere to the path length at the zenith, and Moon’s calculations assume an average amount of various impurity species in the atmosphere in calculating the power received at the earth’s surface for various air masses. In this letter the optical path is constant, since all measurements are made around noontime, and the amounts of impurities are variable according to the weather conditions. The air mass values given here are found by comparing the input power with Moon’s calculated values.
