    • This is an important difference from the previously reported postponed compensation experiment [T.B. Pittman, D.V. Strekalov, A. Migdall, M.H. Rubin, A.V. Sergienko, and Y.H. Shih, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 1917 (1996)]. In the postponed compensation experiment we compensated for nonoverlapping of the photon’s wave packets by placing a compensator in one channel after the interferometer, so that the detectors still fired simultaneously, which may leave a room for a “firing times indistinguishability” single-photon argument. Now the situation is different, and no compensation is needed.PRLTAO

    • In our experiment, both the single-photon coherence length (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) are determined by interference filters and therefore are related to each other. This is not a general rule; (Formula presented) can be completely unrelated to (Formula presented) For example, in type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion 1015 not only the width but also the shape of the biphoton in the (Formula presented) direction is quite different from a single-photon wave-packet shape: It is rectangular.
