    • Simultaneous application of the two horizontal Raman beams creates a spatial modulation of their net polarization. At sites where their polarization is not linear, the ac Stark shift shifts the Raman resonance. To cool all sites identically, we modulate the phase of one of the horizontal Raman beams with a pair of oscillating Brewster plates.
