Exurban and Suburban Households
-
President Clinton, in his January 19. 1999, State of the Union Address, said: "... I propose a $1 billion Livability Agenda to help communities save open space, ease traffic congestion, and grow in ways that enhance every citizen's quality of life." 5. Researchers have documented the fact that suburbanites and exurbanites have no substantial differences anymore (e.g., A. C. Nelson and T. W. Sanchez, "Exurban and Suburban Households," Journal of Housing Research 8, no. 2, pp. 249-276), and that polynucleated landscapes exist within which households maximize their space and location utility recognizing that there are many Jobs in the fringe areas.
