This model uses urease-negative Proteus spp. which could be used in the future to prevent struvite precipitation.

4. Siener R, Ebert D, Hesse A. Urinary oxalate excretion in female calcium oxalate stone formers with and without a history of recurrent urinary tract infections. Urol Res 2001; 29:245-248. Well designed study analyzing urinary risk factors in those that have been on antibiotics.
5. Conte Visus A, Grases Freixedas F, Costa-Bauza A, Piza Reus P. Microinfections and kidney lithiasis. Arch Esp Urol 2001; 54:855-860. Further information that the nanobacteria are not a major factor in stone matrix.

7. Siroky MB. Pathogenesis of bacteriuria and infection in the spinal cord injured patient. Am J Med 2002; 113 (Suppl 1A):67S-79S. Important information for clinicians treating patients with spinal cord injuries. This paper highlights that infections and stones are still a major source of morbidity and mortality.
8. Bohles H, Gebhardt B, Beeg T, et al. Antibiotic treatment-induced tubular dysfunction as a risk factor for renal stone formation in cystic fibrosis. J Pediatr 2002; 140:103-109. Excellent study design and analysis. Links antibiotic use with hypercalciuria in cystic fibrosis patients.

10. Lu H, Shekarriz B, Stoller M. Donor-gifted allograft urolithiasis: early percutaneous management. Urology 2002; 59:25-27.
11. McAleer I, Kaplan G, Bradley J, Carroll S. Staghorn calculus endotoxin expression in sepsis. Urology 2002; 59:601. This case report documents that endotoxin can be present in the stone itself despite low colony counts of bacteria in the urine. Endotoxemia may actually be more important than bacteremia in the pathogenesis of urosepsis.
12. Nilsen F, Karlsen S, Gjertsen O. Gas-containing renal stones treated with percutaneous nephrolithotomy: case report. J Endourol 2001; 15:915-917. This is an interesting and rare type of stone. The report contains excellent radiographs documenting air inside the calculi.
13. Ruiz Marcellan F, Ibarz Servio L, Salinas Duffo D. Infective lithiasis: treatment and complications. Arch Esp Urol 2001; 54:937-950. This is a large series from Spain reviewing treatment outcomes.
14. O'Connor R, Laven B, Bales G, Gerber G. Nonsurgical management of benign prostatic hyperplasia in men with bladder calculi. Urology 2002; 60:288-291. This is an interesting paper testing medical therapy after cystolithalopaxy without prostatectomy.
