note
-
For example, the Rural Challenge (now called the Rural School and Community Trust) is a five-year initiative begun in 1996 with a $50 million grant by the Annenberg Foundation, to improve public schools in rural areas. The initiative is guided by a philosophy that schools and communities serve each other. The Ford Foundation made a decade-long commitment in 1995 to support a Rural Community College Initiative, to enhance the capacity of community colleges to expand access to post-secondary education and help foster regional economic development in specific rural areas facing outmigration and stagnant or declining economies.
