    • The parallel application of two independent methods is essential for the identification of the redox states. The quartz tube with the solution of the anion state of the sample was inserted into the UV /vis/NIR spectrophotometer (lambda 9, Perkin Elmer) and directly afterwards into the EPR cavity (X‐band, Bruker ESP. 300), without changing the conditions. An analogue procedure consists in the use of clecrolytically controlled radical generation and spectroscopic measurements

    • A characterization of the hexaanion through alkylation with dimethylsulfate did not allow the identification of the hexamethylated product. Instead, a mixture with several addition products, showing a broad molecular mass distribution ranging from 700 to 1400, was obtained. Furthermore, upon alkylation of an anionic position free radicals may be formed, which can undergo further reactions.
