REE concentrations are normalized to the REE concentrations in C1 meteorites, which are the chemically most primitive meteorites. Their condensable element budget closely resembles the composition of the Sun's photosphere (3) and is taken as reference for the composition of the inner solar system. The term anomaly refers to a positive or negative deviation of the C1-normalized concentration of an individual REE (e.g., Eu, Yb) relative to the C1-normalized concentrations of the other REEs.
