    • The results shown in Figs. 3(c) and 3(d) are obtained for only one component of the double degenerate HOMO of benzene. The choice of either of the two components is arbitrary provided they are orthogonal. Another linear combination of the two components would change the χ dependence. However, the results averaged over χ remains the same.

    • We note that the existence of nonplanar nodal surfaces in the HOMO of most molecules can also influence the orientational dependence of molecular ionization. This is yet to be explored.
