    • The observed photoinduced effects are of persistent nature. Upon switching off the X-ray beam and warming the sample in the dark to room temperature, the lattice contraction partially survives for many hours (after 10 h, the fraction of the collapsed phase is still about 20%), which implies that the lattice strains accompanying electron transfer are large enough that relaxation does not occur immediately even at room temperature. However, we note that if in the course of warming to room temperature the sample is continuously illuminated by green laser light, the pristine room temperature phase (GS) is completely recovered.
