The preservation of the Warship Wasa
-
Recovery and preservation of the Vasa was a massive national project that began with the ship's discovery in 1956. In 1961 the entire 70-metre long hull, cradled between floatation barges, broke the surface and was towed into drydock. The formidable problems of preserving this enormous wooden structure are detailed in:, in, ed. A. Oddy, Maritime Monograph and Reports 16, 1975, National Maritime Museum, Greenwich to 105
