    • K. S. Thorne (private communication) informs us that this factor, estimated in Ref. 20 as 1.5, can be determined exactly from L. S. Finn and D. F. Chernoff, Phys. Rev. D 47, 2198 (1993) to be about 1.08. This reduces our estimates of (Formula presented) by about 15%—a small change in light of the other uncertainties in our analysis, e.g. the superfluid transition temperature and the large-amplitude behavior of the (Formula presented)-modes.

    • K. S. Thorne (private communication)points out that these (Formula presented) are based on the conventional configuration of the LIGO detectors. It might be possible to increase these (Formula presented) by moving the “knee” of the photon shot noise upward to about 200 Hz where more of this signal is produced. This reconfiguration of the detector would simply require changing the reflectivity of some of the corner mirrors.
