2. Perovic SV, Djordjevic MLJ, Kekic ZK, Vukadinovic VM. Bladder autoaugmentation with rectus muscle backing. J Urol 2002; 168:1877-1880. The technique should be further studied, before it can be recommended as an alternative to other standard techniques of autoaugmentation, but it shows that the rectus muscle is a good alternative to other backing materials. An interesting piece of work on initial experiences with bladder autoaugmentation.

This work provides us with a contrast to the traditional view of the female pelvic floor, in which each compartment was considered to be an independent entity. There is an urgent need for directly comparative studies of the different surgical approaches for the pelvic floor.

7. Yamamoto Y, Sugihara T. Pelvic reconstruction with a free fillet lower leg flap. Plast Reconstr Surg 2003; 111:1475-1476. This paper describes an interesting change to the operative procedure. The long-term results show that this technique has the ability to cover large defects in the pelvic region. This is a valuable field in reconstructive surgery.
8. Ninkovic M, Stenzl A, Schwabegger A, et al. Free neurovascular transfer of latissimus dorsi for the treatment of bladder acontractility. II. Clinical results. J Urol 2003; 169:1379-1383. This paper is of special interest because it provides clinical results and raises the possibility that voluntary voiding has been maintained for several years postoperatively. Thus, skeletal muscle transplantation can be used to substitute for the dysfunctional detrusor smooth muscle. Perhaps this knowledge opens up new horizons in the field of bladder reconstruction.

This technique can be used to repair defects of the lower trunk without the need for vascular anastomoses and without incurring donor-site morbidity. It is a good alternative to other techniques.
