note
-
A microannulus is a small gap between cement and a pipe or a formation. This phenomenon has been documented by running sequential cement bond logs, first with no pressure inside the casing and then with the casing pressured. The bond log clearly indicates that applied pressure often closes a microannulus.

note
-
Sag is defined as settling of particles in the annulus of a well, which can occur when the mud is static or being circulated. Because of the combination of secondary flow and gravitational forces, weighting materials can settle, or sag, in a flowing mud in a high-angle well. If settling is prolonged, the upper part of a wellbore will lose mud density, which lessens the hydrostatic pressure in the hole, allowing an influx of formation fluid to enter the well.
